Physical Examination

  • General appearance: Unremarkable older dog.

  • Vital signs:
  • Temperature: 38.6° C (101.4° F)
  • Pulse: 112 beats/min
  • Respirations: Panting
  • Weight: 40.3 kg (88.8 lbs)

  • Skin: Multiple subcutaneous, fatty-like masses and skin tags on the ventral abdomen.

  • HEENT: Eyes normal. Mucous membranes pink and moist. Ears have mild, dark-colored exudate, and pinna cartilage AU is collapsed. No ocular discharge, submandibular lymphadenopathy, or oral lesions observed.

  • Pulmonary: Eupneic, with normal lung sounds.

  • Cardiovascular: No murmur or arrhythmia, capillary refill time normal, no pulse deficits.

  • Gastrointestinal: Gut sounds present and unremarkable.

  • Genitourinary: Urination not observed.

  • Musculoskeletal: Lameness of left forelimb. Grade II at the walk and grade III at the trot. Painful on flexion of the left carpus and elbow. Also discomfort on palpation of the nail bed of the 5th digit on the left forelimb. Decreased range of motion in both hips.

  • Neurologic: No obvious deficits; full neurologic exam not performed.

  • Mental status: Bright, alert, and responsive.
