Cloacal prolapse, splendid leaf frog (Cruziohyla calcarifer)

Photograph of a splendid leaf frog (Cruziohyla calcarifer) with cloacal prolapse. Parasitism commonly causes cloacal prolapse, although gastrointestinal foreign bodies, gastroenteritis, cystic calculi, and trauma must also be considered. The prolapse should be replaced as quickly as possible to improve the likelihood of a successful outcome for the amphibian.
