Uterus, ex situ, African pygmy hedgehog

Uterus ex situ after ovariohysterectomy. Note the marked curvature of the uterine horns, short mesometrium, and small, difficult-to-see ovaries (blue stars) immediately adjacent to the apices of the horns. This hedgehog presented for hemorrhagic vaginal discharge, and an ultrasound examination revealed an enlarged, fluid-filled left uterine horn (white arrow).
