The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced a 5-year plan intended to increase research on tickborne diseases. In a press release announcing the program, they noted that cases of tickborne diseases, primarily Lyme disease, reported to NIH nearly doubled between 2004 and 2016. The research expansion is intended to improve understanding of tickborne infections, improve diagnostic techniques, and study new treatments.

More details on the NIH plan for tickborne disease research can be read at UPI. The full NIH strategic plan for tickborne disease research is also available.
