A dog in Hong Kong that is owned by a patient with COVID-19 has had two weak positive tests for the coronavirus that causes the disease. Oral and nasal swabs taken in late February and early March yielded the positive results, although the dog shows no signs of illness and the significance of a weak positive result is not clear. The dog is being quarantined and Hong Kong health officials are working with the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) to assess the case. CDC officials have stated that pets are not likely to be infected by the virus or to transmit it to people.

In related news, AVMA is collecting information about potential supply-chain issues that could lead to shortages of veterinary drugs. No companies have reported shortages of drug ingredients or raw materials to FDA so far, but 6 of 32 firms told FDA they were seeing supply chain disruptions that could soon lead to shortages.
