Actinobacillus lignieresii infection, lung and heart lesions, cow

Necropsy photos of the lungs and heart from a 4-year-old cow that presented for chronic weight loss and diarrhea, as well as muffled heart sounds and a right-sided ping. Radiographs revealed pleural effusion. (A) The lungs show diffuse fibrinous pleuropneumonia with massive abscessation. (B) The heart shows fibrinopurulent pericarditis/endocarditis. Actinobacillus lignieresii was cultured at necropsy.
