Cecal trocarization, horse

Cecal trocarization, horse

Trocarization of the cecum in a horse via a 14-gauge catheter. The stylet remains in place and is connected to an extension set placed in a cup of tap water to monitor progress. Successful decompression can take 30–45 minutes. Active mechanical suction can speed up the process.
