This photomicrograph shows a heavy H contortus infection in a goat, with multiple layers of trichostrongyle eggs stacking on top of one another. H contortus is a highly fecund species, with females capable of producing up to 10,000 eggs per day. Haemonchus contortus eggs are typical trichostrongyle eggs. Definitive identification requires additional diagnostics, such as peanut lectin stains or coproculture.
