Leishmania infantum in macrophage, photomicrograph, dog
Photomicrograph of a fine-needle aspirate from the spleen of a dog with leishmaniosis. Note the free Leishmania infantum amastigotes in the hemodiluted background, as well as inside the cytoplasm of a macrophage. Amastigotes of different Leishmania spp are generally morphologically indistinguishable from each other, but they can be differentiated by molecular analysis. Wright-Giemsa stain; scale bar = 10 mcm.
