Peroneal nerve block, horse

Needle placement for a peroneal nerve block in a horse. A 20‑gauge, 3.8‑cm (1½‑inch) needle is inserted to its hub between the long and lateral digital extensor muscles. Half of the anesthetic is deposited deeply, and the remaining half is deposited as the needle is retracted to target the superficial branch of the nerve.
