Pseudomonas infection, Gram stain, ear, dog
Photomicrograph of Gram stain of a smear from a dog's ear. The presence of gram-negative rod-shaped organisms (teal circle) is suspicious for Pseudomonas infection; culture in this case confirmed a multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas sp. Biofilm, which is commonly produced by Pseudomonas spp, is suspected to be present because of the veil-like material in aggregates (black circle). The blue arrow indicates nuclear streaming from ruptured neutrophils. The red arrow indicates a red blood cell. Gram stain; original magnification 1000X.
