Subspectacular abscessation, snake
Subspectacular abscessation in a Burmese python at presentation (left) and immediately after spectacle incision to facilitate drainage. Subspectacular abscessation is well documented in snakes. The initiating cause is often retained eye caps and subsequent damage. Surgical drainage, ensuring patency of the lacrimal duct, and topical antimicrobials on the exposed cornea are important for successful treatment. The spectacle heals during ecdysis.
