Tracheotomy incision, horse

Placement of the tracheotomy incision in the proximal neck of a horse. Note that the skin is incised, and the incision is extended between the paired sternothyroid and sternohyoid muscles. The surgeon palpates the tracheal rings to perform a horizontal incision through the tracheal membrane, avoiding the tracheal rings.
