Vulvoplasty has been performed to prevent air from being aspirated into the caudal genital tract. Mares with poor perineal conformation may be prone to chronic uterine infections and benefit from a Caslick operation. Owners must be instructed to have an episiotomy performed before parturition in any pregnant mare that has had a Caslick operation.
