Notes

Gentamicin

Dogs

10–14 mg/kg, IM, IV, or SC, q 24 h

Dosage reduction is required in dogs with renal impairment

Cats

5–8 mg/kg, IV, IM, or SC, q 24 h

Dosage reduction is required in cats with renal impairment

Horses

Foals

7.7-9.7 mg/kg, IV, q 24 h; IM injection causes muscle irritation

< 2 weeks of age: 12 mg/kg, IV, q 36 h

>2 weeks of age: 6.6 mg/kg, IV, q 24 h

Neonatal foals (<2 weeks of age, may require higher daily dosing and longer dosing intervals)

Swine

1.1–2.2 mg/kg, PO as medicated water, q 24 h for 3 days

Turkeys

For 1-3 day old poults: 1 mg/poult, SC, in the back of the neck

Streptomycin

Broiler chickens

22–33 mg/kg, PO as medicated water, q 24 h for up to 5 days

Not for use in layers

Calves

22–33 mg/kg, PO as medicated water, q 24 h for up to 5 days

Swine

22-33 mg/kg as oral medicated water for up to 4 days

Dihydrostreptomycin

Cattle

11 mg/kg, IM, q 12 h

Not for use in lactating dairy cattle

Dogs

11 mg/kg, IM (deep injection), q 12 h for 3 to 5 days or until the urine is free of Leptospira for at least 72 hours as determined by dark-field microscopic examination

Horses

11 mg/kg, IM (deep injection), q 12 h for 3 to 5 days or until the urine is free of Leptospira for at least 72 hours as determined by dark-field microscopic examination

Swine

11 mg/kg, IM, q 12 h

Amikacin

Cats

10–15 mg/kg, IM, IV, or SC, q 24 h

Dogs

15–30 mg/kg, IM, IV, or SC, q 24 h

Horses

10–mg/kg, IV, q 24 h
