Hip dysplasia, a bilateral malformation of the hip joint, is often associated with secondary osteoarthritis. It may be present at birth. However, abnormal gait may develop in rapidly growing animals. Usually, it is possible to rock the hindquarter to produce a click as the head of the femur pops in or out. Radiography may confirm the diagnosis in young animals. There is no treatment.
