Exploring One Health Resources

MSD Veterinary Manual

The veterinary and human Manuals, in the spirit of One Health, are pleased to co-promote One Health initiatives and information throughout November, during which International One Health Day occurs.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “One Health is a collaborative, multisectoral, and trans-disciplinary approach — working at the local, regional, national, and global levels — with the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.”

Resources available on our site include:

  • A just-released discussion on Antimicrobial Resistance and the Human-Animal Interface, featuring the Vet Manual’s editorial board member for public health, Dr. Kris Carter, DVM, MPVM, DACVPM, epidemiologist for the CDC, as well as the human Manual’s editorial board member Matthew E. Levison, MD, Professor, School of Public Health, Drexel University; Adjunct Professor of Medicine, Drexel University College of Medicine.
  • A new video on Mechanisms of Antimicrobial Resistance, illustrating how microbes evolve to develop ways to defend or circumvent antibiotic medications.
  • Rotating infographics regarding One Health on our website’s home page.
  • A brief discussion of One Health concepts in the Veterinary Manual.
  • A featured quiz on Antibacterial Agents available on our quiz page under Pharmacology.
  • A news item highlighting a joint statement about antimicrobial resistance from veterinary associations.
