In early February, Hill’s recalled 25 varieties of canned dog food after a supplier’s manufacturing error led to excessive levels of the vitamin in the food. Since then, they’ve added 8 more lot/date codes to the recalled list and multiple pet owners have contacted Hill’s to report that their pets either became ill or died after eating the food.

More on the recall of Hill’s canned dog food, including details on which lots are affected, is available at DVM360.

Information on nutritional requirements of dogs and effects of excess vitamin D can also be found in the MSD Veterinary Manual.
