Rabbits are small mammals in the family Leporidae. Domestic rabbits come from the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Wild rabbits and hares include cottontails (Sylvilagus) and true hares or jackrabbits (Lepus).

Rabbit breeds

A male rabbit is called a buck, a female is a doe, and a baby rabbit is a kit. Rabbits are usually quiet, social, and playful when treated gently. Rabbits living together must get along well.

As pets, rabbits require more care and attention than many people expect, although not all rabbits like to be held. Breeds differ in size, color, and fur length. Rabbits have soft fur, long ears, short fluffy tails, and strong hind legs built for jumping. They are most active at dawn and dusk.
