Photomicrographs showing northern fowl mite (A) and poultry red mite (B) adult females, cleared and slide-mounted under phase-contrast microscopy. The adult female poultry red mite is slightly larger (approximately 1.5 mm) than the adult female northern fowl mite (approximately 0.6 mm), and it has very long chelicerae (arrow).
