Fluid | Compound sodium lactate (lactated Ringer's solution) |
Timing | Half of this total volume should be administered over the first 8 hours, with the remainder given over the following 16 hours. Critically, this timing should be calculated from the time the burn was sustained and not the time fluid resuscitation began. It is very important not to be too aggressive with fluid resuscitation. |
Indication | If burns exceed 10% of body surface area |
Maintenance | For an animal with a body weight < 30 kg, maintenance fluids should also be administered |
